Miami International Airport Parking Garage
Vibration monitoring to protect important airport infrastructure during garage construction.
At Miami International Airport, one of the nation’s busiest transportation hubs, construction activities must proceed without disrupting operations or compromising nearby infrastructure. ECS Group of Companies provided vibration monitoring services for a 150,000‑square‑foot, six‑story parking garage addition commissioned by Lemartec.
Challenge: Construction vibrations near active airport
The 18‑month project required continuous oversight to make sure construction vibrations remained within strict contractual and regulatory limits while daily airport activity continued uninterrupted.
Building a multi‑story garage within an active airport environment also introduced risks to adjacent structures, utilities and sensitive systems. Pile installation and heavy equipment operations required vibration control measures to meet airport requirements and protect facilities serving thousands of travelers each day.
Solution: Continuous monitoring with real-time alerts
ECS installed seven fixed-mounted seismographs within the zone of influence to measure peak particle velocity to 0.001 inches per second. The program included installation, calibration, monthly site visits, automated alerts triggered at 0.25 inches per second and a final compliance report.
