Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

On-call CMT, Special Inspections, and environmental services for active international airport

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport serves the nation’s capital, where active operations, strict building codes and federal oversight make every renovation consequential. ECS Group of Companies provided structural steel special inspections, ground penetrating radar scanning and asbestos-containing materials surveys across multiple concourses and terminal areas for clients including Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), national food and beverage tenants and general contractors. Work spanned tenant fit-outs, infrastructure upgrades and pre-renovation environmental clearances, all performed under the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and MWAA building department requirements.

Challenge: Meeting layered code requirements for active airport

Every project at DCA required coordination with MWAA’s independent building department, which enforces the 2018 Virginia Construction Code. Structural observations required approved drawings stamped by a structural engineer of record before special inspections could proceed.

Solution: Integrated multi-service delivery supporting active construction

ECS performed structural steel observations across eight tenant fit-out projects, conducted GPR scanning at six locations, and completed five asbestos-containing materials surveys totaling approximately 4,442 square feet, confirming no detectable asbestos.  Through integrated delivery of construction materials testing, special inspections, GPR, and environmental services, ECS provided timely field verification, supported construction sequencing, and maintained compliance with MWAA requirements, enabling multiple concurrent renovations to proceed efficiently within active terminal environments without delays while coordinating with airport operations and adhering to strict safety protocols required.
