Developing and deploying a mobile PFAS treatment trailer for emergency water response in Delaware
In response to statewide per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) impacts, The State of Delaware Health and Social Services contracted ECS Group of Companies to design and procure a mobile PFAS treatment trailer for deployment to rural water sources across the state where PFAS concentrations exceed EPA Health Advisory Levels (HALs).
Challenge: Meeting stringent PFAS removal requirements
The primary challenge was developing a treatment system that could be mobilized to rural locations with unpredictable influent water quality and variable flow rates while still achieving PFAS removal below EPA Health Advisory Levels.
Solution: Custom granular activated carbon system integration
ECS designed and procured a 53-foot mobile treatment trailer with four granular activated carbon vessels, sediment removal, pressure boosting, automated controls and remote monitoring. ECS also designed an auxiliary backwash trailer with two 3,500-gallon tanks to support operation at sites with insufficient influent flow, and provide water to rural communities across Delaware, bringing PFAS concentrations to levels below EPA Health Advisory Levels.
