EverBank Field Scoreboard Expansion
Environmental and geotechnical coordination for the foundation beneath the NFL’s largest scoreboards
In 2013, the Jacksonville Jaguars built new high-definition LED video displays measuring 62 feet high by 362 feet wide which were, at the time, the largest HD LED video boards in existence. This six-figure video scoreboard expansion at EverBank Field came with unique soil and groundwater challenges where contamination was found, requiring a dedicated geotechnical and environmental consultant like ECS Group of Companies.
Challenge: Contamination beneath the end zone
In certain areas, soil and groundwater exceeded Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) cleanup target levels, placing the site under restrictive covenants. Any new foundation work required active environmental oversight to remain in compliance.
Solution: Foundation design on contaminated ground
ECS Florida performed geotechnical investigation and foundation design for the new scoreboard supports, conducting soil and groundwater assessments at each foundation footer location. Testing included grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, Proctor moisture density relationships, in-place density testing and fill placement observations throughout construction.
