Truist Point Stadium

Expanding athletic infrastructure and improving stadium utility

The Triad region of North Carolina has undergone a variety of improvements over the years, largely due to BB&T’s merger with SunTrust Bank. Supporting the opening of this new stadium through subsurface evaluation, foundation-related support, materials testing and compliance services, ECS Group of Companies kept progress on track throughout the stadium’s 1.3 years of construction.

Challenge: Coordinating quality assurance amid project complexity

Project construction involved multiple structural systems, including concrete masonry unit (CMU) walls, reinforcing steel, concrete, shallow foundations and structural steel. The site was previously occupied with single-family residential, commercial buildings and industrial buildings.

Coordinating observation and testing across these elements require consistent field communication and documentation to keep construction moving efficiently.

Solution: Delivering testing and observation across structural elements

Teams observed soil conditions through proof rolls and density testing and recommended lime stabilization to address wet soil conditions during winter construction, keeping the project on schedule. Teams also reviewed reinforcing steel and foundations, sampled and tested concrete and documented masonry and structural steel activities. The stadium was ready for opening in April 2019.

ECS’ technical input and methodical recommendations earned us the Star Award from the North Carolina Construction Professionals Network in recognition of support for construction at Truist Point Stadium.
