How did you decide to enter this industry?
I started contracting and building homes right out of high school as a way to put myself through college and pursue a field I was fascinated with. I built homes for a while, but joined Fairfax County Government in 2007 when the market crashed and have been in code compliance inspections and management ever since.
What motivates you to work hard?
An internal drive to grow and learn as much as possible, and of course two little ones at home that help put things in perspective.
What’s an accomplishment you are proud of?
I recently was fortunate to obtain a Master Code Professional certification through ICC. It’s a milestone that took me three years of continuous study and test taking. More importantly, it was a personal goal that allowed me to grow individually and within ECS, and helped build our code compliance team’s depth of skills.
What is the most interesting thing you are currently working on?
Everything! Our group handles code compliance inspections in the DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) region ranging in technical challenges from renovations to large healthcare projects. Every day is so different and full of challenges.
