At ECS, we strongly believe in giving back to our community. Our offices participate in a multitude of events and fundraising activities, not only during the holiday season, but all year long. During this giving season, we reflect on a sampling of how ECS has given back this year.
Warming Bellies
ECS Orlando participated as an “Ultimate Hero” sponsor of the NAIOP Hunger Project supporting Feeding Children Everywhere. On November 9, the Orlando staff helped package 40,000 meals for local children.
Evea and Cheryl of ECS Jacksonville participated in Hunger Fight on November 20. They packaged a little over 10,000 meals in 3 hours that went to Puerto Rico in support of hurricane relief.
Spreading Green
Jack and Nicole of ECS Baltimore participated in the NAIOP Maryland Community Service Project on May 4. With the goal of strengthening communities by improving the environment, the committee teamed up with the Living Classrooms’ East Harbor Campus, which is home to The Cross Roads School. As one of the first charter schools in the state of Maryland, it offers programs such as the BUGS (Baltimore Urban Gardening with Students After School) Program and Fresh Start, a ten-month job training program for high-risk teen males. The chapter improved the grounds, built gardens, cleaned up the wetlands areas, stained furniture, painted fencing and provided a multitude of plants and shrubs throughout the facility.
Gifting Joy
ECS Chantilly has been participating in toy drives since 1997. In addition to collecting toys for Inova Hospital and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots, the team has supported families from Fairfax County and Fort Belvoir. ECS Chantilly included the toy drive during this year’s holiday party hosted for clients, who were all tremendous supporters with their donations.
Katie of ECS Baltimore volunteered with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Baltimore Young Leaders at the Towanda Community Center on November 18. Working with Park Heights Renaissance, a non-profit organization dedicated to shaping a better future for Park Heights, Maryland, the group decorated the recreation center and collected gifts from ULI for a holiday bazaar run by the non-profit.
Investing in Our Youth
ECS Charlotte is involved throughout the year with the Mecklenburg County Boy Scouts. Amy is on their Executive Board and has been the Chair for the Sporting Clay Tournament for the past two years. They raised over $100,000 this year and $90,000 last year at the event. The office participates in the Boy Scouts Exploring program by hosting a class where they educate young people about engineering services and plan an activity that focuses on an aspect of what an engineer does.
ECS employees are a true testament to the philosophy that it is “better to give than to receive.”
