Eliminate Distracted Driving

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Distracted driving has become a significant safety issue on American highways. Many states are beefing up existing laws and adopting new legislation in an effort to reduce the thousands of needless deaths and injuries caused by distracted drivers each year. In an effort to spread the focus on eliminating distracted driving, we are sharing some apps that can help you to reduce your chances of driving while distracted. Please join us to help save lives.

1.  Waze

Waze

Waze is a GPS app that provides community-based, real time information on traffic and road hazards while you are driving.  With features to route you around an accident and notifications of potential hazards in the roadway or on the shoulder up ahead, this app puts you in the driver seat of your safety.  As an additional safety feature, the app can only be utilized by a passenger or when the vehicle is not in motion. 

 

2.  Lifesaver

Lifesaver

Lifesaver is an app that uses GPS monitoring and a rewards system to help drivers break dangers distracted driving habits. The app blocks the ability to use your phone while driving, and automatically lets loved ones know once you’ve safely arrived at your destination.

It features a “Driver Portal” dashboard for parents to help guide teens on the journey to responsible driving habits, where they can set up rewards for their children when they demonstrate safe driving behavior. Additionally, LifeSaver can be used by commercial fleet managers to monitor their drivers’ behavior on the job.

 

3.  AT&T Drive Mode

AT&T DriveMode is an app that keep drivers from becoming distracted by silencing incoming alerts and calls.  It will automatically reply to text messages that you are driving.  Easy and convenient, the app can be set to turn on automatically when the vehicle is driving over 15 mph.  It keeps young drivers safe by sending a text to the parent if the AT&T DriverMode is turned off, auto-mode is disabled or a new speed-dial number is added.

 

4.  TrueMotion Family

TrueMotion Family is an app that provides a “trip score” for each time you are behind the wheel.  Using a rating scale for your overall drive, the app pinpoints the moments where you may have been distracted.  It has the ability to compare driving scores with family members and updates real time locations of family members on the road, as well as their trip history. 

 

5.  Mojo

Mojo

Mojo is an app designed to motivate you to be a better driver and have fun while doing it.  It automatically tracks your trip and how much you are distracted during driving.  It gives you a score based on how often you swipe, type or take calls on your phone.  As you participate in distraction-free driving, you earn points and you can compete with friends to see who is the safest.  A point system is used to reward you for safe driving with chances to win cash and prizes.
