The ECS Group of Companies (ECS) is pleased to announce that Robert Valorio, PE, has joined the firm as a Geotechnical Department Manager in the Philadelphia, PA, office. Mr. Valorio has more than 25 years of experience in project management, construction/building product manufacturing, engineering design and construction services. He has acted as Project Manager, lead design engineer and Engineer of Record for civil, structural, geotechnical and environmental engineering projects of varying complexity as well as managed a diverse product portfolio of geotechnical, environmental and civil engineering construction materials prior to joining ECS. He specializes in soil and rock slope stability evaluations, slope failure forensics and in the design and construction of slope stabilization measures and reinforced/mechanically stabilized earth.

Mr. Valorio is a licensed Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Connecticut. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); the ASCE Geo-Institute, where he participates in the Technical Committees for Embankments, Dams and Slopes and for Geosynthetics; the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), where he is a member of the Technical Committee for Barrier Systems; and ASTM International as a voting member of Committee D35.
Mr. Valorio is also an internationally recognized authority on geosynthetic materials for containment and barrier applications. His recent professional publications include “Polymer Modified Geosynthetic Clay Liners for High pH Mining Leachates,” GeoAfrica, 2017; “Polymer Enhanced Geosynthetic Clay Liners for Extreme Leachate Chemistries,” EuroGeo6, 2016; and “Chemical Compatibility of Polymer Modified GCLs in Coal Combustion Residual Leachates,” GeoAmericas, 2016.
