Honoring Our Veterans

Reading Time: 1 minute
ECS has always held a special regard for our employee owners that service in the U.S. Armed Forces. Our founders, Henry Lucas and Jim Eckert, are both Vietnam Era veterans. The skills learned during active and reserve duty experience and what those employees bring to their careers with ECS is an interesting connection.

Recently, we spoke with one of our newest hires, Assistant Branch Manager Dave Stinnette, to get his thoughts on how his experiences serving in the U.S. Navy has informed his career as an engineer. “There are four main points that I learned in the Navy that I use in my job every day,” he said. They are:

  • Not everything goes as planned – so you have to be willing and able to make adjustments on the fly
  • Training and experience are the keys to success – we learn from what we do every day. Continue to tweak a process until you master it
  • Safety and equipment maintenance are critical – be aware of your surroundings, so you can work safely and meet your goals
  • Know what you don’t know – don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know – and don’t take things for granted

So in honor of Veteran’s Day November 11 – and as we say here at ECS – here’s a big “Howl Out” to our veterans. Thank you for your service to our country.
