Project Description

This project involved the complete development of an approximately 130 acre site on the Engineering Proving Ground at Fort Belvoir.  The sitework consisted of new roadways, underground utilities, stormwater management ponds, retaining walls, sidewalks, curbs, guard stations, and a new four lane bridge over the Accotink Creek. 

 

The project included the construction of five separate buildings:

·         The Main Building consists of 2.2M sf of office space with one level below grade and eight levels above grade on a deep foundation system with a structural steel frame and curtain wall skin.

·         The Technology Center consists of a 150,000 sf data center consisting of four levels above-grade on a deep foundation system with structural steel frame and combination pre-cast and curtain wall skin.

·         The Central Utility Plant consists of a 95,000 sf one story building on a deep foundation system with a structural steel frame and metal panel skin.

·         The Visitor Control Center consists of 9,000 sf one story masonry and structural steel frame on a deep foundation system with a combination of glass and metal panel skin.

·         The Parking Garage consists of 1.5M sf and a seven level precast parking garage with accommodations for 5,200 parking spaces.

 

ECS Involvement

·         Provided construction materials observation and testing services

·         Served as contractor quality control in accordance with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers certification program

·         Staffed the project with three field managers, 15 construction materials testing technicians, three structural steel and welding inspectors, and two waterproofing and roofing inspectors
