Description: The Cliffside Steam Station began producing power in 1940
and consists of a five-unit, 760,000-kilowatt station, owned and operated by
Duke Energy. The project consisted of
the construction of a new chimney utilizing concrete slip-form
construction. The construction required
concrete placement 24-hours a day, seven days a week. An on-site concrete batch plant was utilized
during construction which required both Quality Assurance and Quality Control
procedures to assure proper concrete delivery consistency and to minimize
delays. The chimney was 570 feet in
height, 72 feet in diameter, with 17-inch thick concrete walls. ECS

the project team with identifying potential problems prior to concrete delivery
