Project Description:

The project consisted of a four lane ConSpan that spans across Goose Creek in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia.  The cross section of the bridge span includes a total of nine ConSpan arches along the 450-foot bridge length.  Bridge foundations were a combination of drilled shafts and spread footings.

ECS Involvement:

·         Provided geotechnical engineering services including borings performed on Goose Creek with a drill rig secured on a barge.  These borings were conducted in general accordance with applicable Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) guidelines for conducting soil boring explorations for structures and roadways.

·         Tested subsurface materials in a laboratory setting to determine pertinent engineering properties and to determine the suitability of some of the materials for reuse in the backfilling of the structure.

·         Tested and inspected deep foundations, concrete abutments, soil backfill, and the installation of ConSpans during construction.
