Project Description:

The new shipping terminal is a $200 million, 400 acre facility on the Elizabeth River.  The project included all infrastructure construction for the backlands portion of the fully automated modern shipping terminal that has state of the art container storage, movement, and shipping design.  The project also included numerous shallow and deep foundation storage and administrative buildings, heavy duty pavement, a new U.S. Customs building, and miles of utility construction.

ECS Involvement:

·         Provided observation of reinforcing steel and concrete sampling and testing for foundation systems, and appurtenant equipment foundations

·         Provided observation and testing of all subgrade, subbase, and pavement systems

·         Performed transport, laboratory curing, and compressive strength testing for cylinder specimens

·         Performed contractor's QC for all trades

·         Performed soil proctor and acceptability tests for proposed borrow material for fill

·         Observed building envelope systems including precast and window walls for bolted and welded structural connections
