PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Project Description:

The American Centrifuge Plant (ACP) is an upgrade/expansion of the existing USEC facility in Piketon, Ohio.  The new process facilities will incorporate gas centrifuge enrichment technology which will replace an older gas diffusion process.  New construction will include several process buildings, piping infrastructure, boilers, assembly and installation of 40 to 50 new AC100 centrifuges, and the production/withdrawal of enriched uranium.

 

ECS Involvement:

·         ECS performed subsurface exploration activities consisting of conventional soil test borings, electronic cone penetration testing, and seismic cone penetration testing. 

·         ECS performed extensive geotechnical laboratory ASTM standard test procedures on soil samples obtained during the field exploration.

·         ECS developed comprehensive geotechnical design and construction recommendations for all phases of the planned improvements.

·         ECS performed advanced seismic hazard analyses for varying return periods, including 10,000 and 100,000 year seismic events in accordance with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission PC3 criteria.
